Recycling the ocean plastic
From trash to treasure (2019-2020)

Back to Media Gallery

We caught our first plastic with System 001/B in 2019. The plastic was certified from the GPGP following a chain of custody protocol developed by DNV. The plastic was recycled into our first product, The Ocean Cleanup sunglasses, with proceeds funding the further cleanup, thereby turning the trash into treasure and taking the plastic full circle. The sunglasses sold out in February 2022. Going forwards, we will work with partners to develop products using The Ocean Cleanup Plastic. All content below should be credited to The Ocean Cleanup.
