The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop technology to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Waste Management Intern to support our team in the scale-up phase of our waste management solutions. The intern will contribute to designing and improving tools, and documentation that enable sustainable, scalable, and financially sound waste management practices across different project set-ups.
- Assist in the development and enhancement of internal documentation, including templates and reporting tools (e.g., Excel/Google Sheets, PowerPoint, and data collection forms).
- Draft documentation for operational and waste management plans suitable for multiple project set-ups.
- Design and prepare templates and guidelines to support phased improvement roadmaps.
- Conduct reviews of waste management assessments and summarize findings.
- Assist in incorporating financial considerations into planning documents and tools.
- Contribute to the development of knowledge products, ensuring clarity and consistency of materials.
- Collaborate with team members and other stakeholders to ensure outputs are aligned with project goals.
Professional Qualifications:
- Background (or ongoing studies) in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
- Ability to translate technical findings into clear, user-friendly documentation and templates.
- Familiarity with sustainability principles and waste management practices (experience with assessments is a plus).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar tools; experience with project management or data tools is an asset.
- Fluent in English.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Creative problem-solver with the ability to adapt to evolving project needs.
- Team player with a collaborative mindset, but also able to work independently.
- Open to feedback and capable of adjusting to evolving project needs.
- Ability to work independently and provide process improvement recommendations.
- Starting date: ASAP
- Duration: 6 months, full-time
- Work permit needed: European Union
- Note that the candidate needs to be enrolled at a University (MSc program) during the duration of the internship
