Interceptor Barricade in Guatemala
Las Vacas River, Interceptor 006

Back to Media Gallery

Having implemented lessons learned from last year, we are back in Guatemala’s Rio Las Vacas with a new technology, the Interceptor Barricade, to make a second attempt at stopping trash floods. Our initial trial of the Interceptor Trashfence in May 2022 was unsuccessful, as a large amount of plastic was not retained, and some structural damage was suffered due to the force of the flash flood. The rainy season in Guetamala starts in May and lasts until October, with most plastic flowing down the river in the beginning. We are monitoring the performance around every rain event to assess this new intervention. Stay tuned for updates on our social media channels.
