In 2020, The Ocean Cleanup partnered with GraceKennedy Foundation and Clean Harbours Jamaica to prevent trash from entering the harbor from the numerous gullies running through Kingston. The harbor is renowned for its rich biodiversity and diverse habitats, such as mangroves, coral reefs, and seagrass beds, all of which play important ecological and social roles.
To date, The Ocean Cleanup has installed eight interceptor barriers in different gullies, with three more planned in the future.
