The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop and scale advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. In the Rivers team, we aim to prevent floating plastic from being emitted into the oceans through the most polluted rivers in the world.
The Analysis & Performance team contributes to the success of The Ocean Cleanup by ensuring that the decision-making processes in Rivers are grounded in reliable data.
You will be working on extending and updating a global dataset with information about river dynamics of rivers across the globe relating to (the removal of) plastic pollution.
This internship will give you experience in working with QGIS and databases in a professional environment. You will work closely together with the river surveyors and data experts. Additionally, there is an opportunity to analyze the dataset and come up with your own research question.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Data collection and standardization
- Quality checking of data
- Enrolled in a higher professional education (HBO)
- Studying environmental science, water management, or any other closely related field
- Experience with QGIS or similar software
- Fluent in English

- Note that the candidate needs to be enrolled at a University (MSc program) during the duration of the internship
