MISSION TO METRICS
To achieve our mission, The Ocean Cleanup needs to design, develop, and deploy offshore cleanup systems that extract plastic from our oceans. You will be responsible for the Electronics & Instrumentation (E&I) of the developments of the E&I systems with a strong focus on managing subcontractors, setting requirements, and ensuring (custom) products are designed, manufactured, and tested within quality objectives, budget, and planning. You will report to the Head of the Retention System and work closely with the project leads and managers to achieve your objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Ocean Cleanup develop technology to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. The Senior Project Engineer E&I sets the requirements for instrumentation on Ocean Systems, aligns with key internal stakeholders, ensures development projects are controlled, and takes care of improvements when the systems are operational. You want to ensure successful delivery of electrical equipment.

Your responsibilities include:
  • Aligning with internal stakeholders on requirements
  • Using your engineering skills to develop creative concepts to develop and improve our systems and operation
  • Preparing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring assigned scopes from conception to execution
  • Developing scope of work and requirements and acceptance criteria for testing
  • Coordinating with contractors to ensure project deliverables meet their milestones on time, within budget, (people) planning, and quality objectives
  • Taking care of technical improvements of existing systems
  • Cooperating and communicating with the Head of Retention System and other project participants and collaborating with disciplined Engineers
  • Supporting the project teams hands-on to achieve their tasks and objectives
  • Play a part in responding to offshore events, sometimes possibly during out-of-office hours.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSc or MSc degree in electrical, mechanical, software, or offshore engineering with Project Management experience
  • Experience with electronics/software (engineering) and product development
  • At least 8 years of relevant work experience in instrumentation projects, preferably in a similar demanding field that prepared you for this job (for example, in innovation, subsea, maritime industry, fishery, etcetera)
  • Demonstrated expertise in project management/lead engineering, particularly managing and coordinating multidisciplinary projects, is a plus
  • Fluent in English

  • Work permit: A valid European Union work permit is highly preferred for this position (The role is based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands);
