MISSION TO METRICS
The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop and scale technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic.
This is a hands-on marketing role focused on using The Ocean Cleanup brand to create real value — for both our organization and the partners who support our mission. You’ll help turn our story into funding and support by attracting new partners and strengthening existing ones. That means helping partners reach their audiences, demonstrating impact, and tracking what works so we can keep improving and growing.
Managing a small team, and reporting to the marketing director, you’ll also act as a key support function across several internal teams — from sales and partnership management to public affairs, product development, and business development — helping shape proposals and materials that position us as the right investment for prospective funders and collaborators.
We're a lean team in a non-profit environment. That means you won’t just be delegating — you’ll also be doing. If know how to turn brand equity into impact, and can rally people around a shared goal, this is your kind of role.
WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE
The ideal candidate will contribute to our success by increasing the win-rate on partnership pitches and developing clear, consistent, and high-performing co-branded campaigns. They will have a proven track record of turning new revenue-generating ideas into live projects and maintaining strong partner relationships that lead to more inbound marketing opportunities. Additionally, they will play a key role in strengthening the connection between our impact and how it is communicated to funders and the public, ensuring our messaging reflects our accomplishments and drives engagement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create compelling stories to build partner base: Write decks, case studies, and campaigns that help existing and future partners understand our impact and get excited to support it.
- Co-create partner campaigns: Collaborate with partners to build joint communications, activations, and marketing campaigns that engage both sides' audiences while honoring both the brands of The Ocean Cleanup and the Partner.
- Own our partner web presence: Manage content strategy and updates for partner landing pages and campaign-related site content.
- Build the impact story: Make sure we’re telling the right story — based on the right data — in a way that resonates with funders, sponsors, and the public.
- Track and measure: Monitor campaign success, partner engagement, and fundraising performance. Use insights to improve our strategy and pitches.
- Support product and licensing marketing: Explore and shape opportunities around co-branded products or licensed content that extends our brand and mission.
- Be the go-to for partner marketing: Act as first point of contact for partner marketing needs, from asset approvals to campaign development.
- Work cross-functionally: Coordinate across departments and external partners — sometimes guiding others, sometimes rolling up your sleeves and doing the work yourself.
We care more about your experience and mindset than specific qualifications, but as a guide:
- You should have at least 8 years of experience in marketing/communication and brand management where you have been solving complex problems and creating value.
- You’ll have experience and understanding of the corporate and/or governmental sector, what matters to them and how to reach and influence decision makers.Â
- You’ll need to be comfortable working independently and driving solutions in a fast-moving environment.
Even if you don’t meet every professional qualification listed, we strongly encourage you to apply if you believe you have the right skills, experience, and motivation to contribute to our mission. We recognize that talent and potential come in many forms, and we value diverse perspectives and unconventional career paths. If you’re passionate about the work we do and confident in your ability to make an impact, don’t hesitate to submit your application—we’d love to hear from you.
