MISSION TO METRICS
To rid the world’s oceans of plastic, we must ensure that The Ocean Cleanup can rely on a strong brand that is recognizable for funders, partners and other supporters of our mission. As a graphic design intern you will be part of the organization's Marketing & Communications Team. You’ll support our Senior Graphic Designer in creating visually appealing designs for The Ocean Cleanup’s creative content, thereby helping to build brand enthusiasm. Communication as a discipline has a unique and central role at The Ocean Cleanup. Our main task is to oversee the day-to-day management of one of our most important assets: our brand, an attractive promise that is driving funding and buy-in from stakeholders globally. We are looking for top talent to join us in the exciting work to continuously uphold and improve our image.

RESPONSIBILITIES
As a graphic design intern with The Ocean Cleanup your key tasks include but are not limited to: 
  • Work within brand guidelines to execute on a broad range of design projects: printed collateral, illustrations, infographics, presentations design using PowerPoint, social media content, environmental/signage, apparel, tradeshow exhibits, etc. 
  • Create production-ready art for both online and print media
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The internship position is open to those currently enrolled in a middle-level applied education (MBO) or higher professional education (HBO) Graphic Design with:
  • A strong portfolio showcasing a good eye for visual design
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Experience working together with people with different disciplines
  • Strong mastery of PowerPoint
  • Proficient level of English
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working for fast-paced brands with tight deadlines
  • Experience with book making/long-format design
  • Experience with motion design
  • Experience with GIS & data-driven visualization

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and to work to close deadlines with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate (both oral and written) with diverse professionals from various backgrounds
  • Self-starter and independent worker 
  • Team player and a strong communicator 
  • Intrinsic motivation to work on our ambitious and meaningful goal

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
  • Starting date: As soon as possible
  • Duration: 6 months, full-time (we do not consider interns for a shorter period)
  • Work permit needed: European Union
  • If applicable, the internship can be combined with a Master's thesis project.
  • Please note that candidates are required to be enrolled in a middle-level applied education (MBO) or higher professional education (HBO) Graphic Design throughout the duration of the internship.
