Maartje Bouvy Joins The Ocean Cleanup Supervisory Board
Back to updatesThe Ocean Cleanup welcomes Maartje Bouvy to the organization’s Supervisory Board. Maartje’s financial expertise as well as her interest in data and sustainability will help drive us forward towards our goals of removing 90% of all floating plastic from the ocean by 2040.
The Ocean Cleanup, as a registered non-profit organization in the Netherlands, operates under a two-tier governance structure. This structure features an independent Supervisory Board which provides oversight on the internal Management Team’s strategic direction, and helps steer decision-making. This ensures transparency and accountability in how Dutch non-profits are run. Read more about our Foundation Details.
A finance executive who started her career at Unilever, Maartje has extensive experience working across a variety of industries, having held senior positions at several major organizations including Royal Haskoning, KPN, Rituals, and most recently Lely, where she serves as Chief Financial Officer.
Maartje’s interest in technology, sustainability and big data will be invaluable to The Ocean Cleanup, as the organization takes its next step towards ridding the world’s oceans of plastic through the implementation of its ambitious 30 Cities Program. Announced at last year’s UN Ocean Conference, the 30 Cities Program sets out to stop up to one third of all plastic emissions from rivers into the ocean by 2030 by deploying The Ocean Cleanup’s proven Interceptor technology in 30 of the world’s most polluting urban areas.
“This is an exciting time to join The Ocean Cleanup’s Supervisory Board,” said Maartje Bouvy. “I look forward to bringing my experience to support the organization’s mission to achieve plastic-free oceans.”
Following this addition, the current composition of the Supervisory Board is Bert Bruggeman (Chairman), Maartje Bouvy, Jaska de Bakker, Erik Oostwegel, and Chris van der Vorm. Feike Sijbesma supports the Supervisory Board as Senior Advisor.
