In order to achieve our mission to rid the world’s oceans of plastic, we need to build strong partnership networks around the world. The Junior Business Developer – Latin America will support us in building that network and will have succeeded once we are successfully deploying our technology in Latin America.

Plastic pollution in our oceans is a global problem, and for The Ocean Cleanup to succeed in its mission, we need to address this globally and work with partners on the same scale. For this purpose, we are looking for a junior business developer with a focus on Latin America.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and researching relevant parties in Latin America that can contribute to achieving our mission
  • Performing country analysis (desk and field research), draft maps of relevant stakeholders, and screen the funding landscape
  • Write project proposals and support business development with prospective partners in this region


  • University degree (BA/MSc) in, for example, international relations, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, business/public administration, or any other field that made you a curious, independent, and responsible professional
  • Around 2-5 years of working experience in a consulting, commercial, or business development role with experience in, for example:
    • Identifying and pursuing opportunities for growth, cooperation, and partnerships;
    • Building and managing successful relationships with partners (abroad);
    • International relations or government affairs;
    • The Latin American market
  • Skilled in data analysis, experience in desk research, and writing smart and concise reports/data sheets
  • You are fluent (excellent/near-native) in both English and Spanish, knowledge of Portuguese is a plus

  • Focused on getting a job done, even when faced with adversity and setbacks
  • Skilled in visualizing data / presenting material well
  • You enjoy working on different projects at the same time
  • Intrinsic motivation to work on our ambitious and meaningful goal
  • Willingness to travel (average 1 week a month)
