The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop technology to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. You will support our mission by strengthening our relationships with governments and international organizations.

The Government Affairs Manager will create visibility and buy-in for our mission with governments and international organizations. You will be managing our efforts, ensuring maximum impact with minimum resources, in close cooperation with our global and local partners.

Responsibilities include:

  • Policy development
  • Direct government engagement; ensure visibility with governments in our countries of envisaged operation
  • Support engagement at relevant international forums
  • Support our resource mobilization efforts
  • Leverage existing and create new networks to reach a deal-making phase with government agencies across the globe
  • Develop cooperation with international organizations, NGOs, and other partners that may contribute to the realization of our objectives
  • Visit prospective partners in numerous countries and locations, predominantly in Latin- and Central America, Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia
  • Lead MOU negotiations in liaison with our General Counsel


  • Master’s degree in law, international relations, or other relevant fields
  • At least 10 years of working experience; preferably in a similar role at a multinational company, consultancy, government, NGO, or international organization
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain extensive contacts with governments and international organizations 
  • Exposure to numerous cultures and proven to thrive in such environments
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver tangible results as a function of the networks you have developed
  • Excellent English language skills (written and verbal), Dutch is not necessarily a requirement, but other languages, such as Spanish, are a plus
